Alfred Kron, age 87, of Glendive, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Glendive Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor Greg Lucido officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive.  Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Alfred was born April 1, 1929 in Bessarabia, Romania to Gottlieb and Margarete (Koppenstein) Kron. As a young man he was forced out of Romania by the Russians and fled to Germany where he met his future wife Edeltraud Schreiber. In 1951 Alfred came to the United States sponsored by John Sura by way of Ellis Island, New York, to Glendive. On February 15, 1953 Alfred was united in marriage to the love of his life Edeltraud in Fallon. To this union six children were born. He was a dairy farmer for a little over a year then worked for Johnson Construction until 1962. At that time he started a new venture, Kron Construction, which he owned and operated until the time of his passing.

Alfred loved working, having built numerous homes and buildings in eastern Montana, always taking great pride in his craftsmanship.  He enjoyed the challenge of a unique building or home.  Nothing was ever cookie cutter about Alfred. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and gardening was a passion to Alfred. As his children left his garden got bigger and he often took his produce to the farmers market for everyone to enjoy. Most important to Alfred was his family, he loved each of them equally and without end.

Alfred served as an elder at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive for many years and sang in the church choir. He also was on the Glendive zoning board.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Otto Kron, John Kron, and Helmut Kron; and one sister, Almeda Kron.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Edeltraud; his six children, Gerhard Kron of Palo Alto, Calif., Rita (Tom) Stortz of Glendive, Claudia (Doug) Frederick of Houston, Texas, Ken (Lee Ann) Kron of Tulsa, Okla., Heidi (Mark) Gauthier of Helena, and Jody (Dennis) Knoll of Glendive; one sister, Alvina Skilton of Chichester, West Sussex, England; one brother, Manfried Kron of Germany; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Auf Wiedersehen, Bis wir uns wieder treffen. Goodbye, Till we meet again.
