Ernest "Ernie" Scheetz

Ernest “Ernie” Scheetz, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Glendive on Monday, December 14, 2015 with his family by his side after a courageous battle of cancer. 

Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015  at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Rosary Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Bill Breitbach officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal Service will be held in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ernie was born on May 21, 1942 in Almont, N.D., a son of John and Ermentina (Doll) Scheetz. He was raised and educated in Flasher where he graduated from Flasher High School with the class of 1962. Throughout Ernie’s life he was employed at Daniels Oilfield Service, Northern Line Layers and retired from CHS (Cenex). Following retirement, Ernie did side work for Crawford Construction as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

Ernie met and later married Barbara Volk on September 28, 1963 in Flasher and to this union three children were born; Shandon, Ernie and Glenda. He was very active in his children’s lives and then his grandchildren’s lives. Ernie would attend sporting events or anything his grandchildren were in to support them. He was a Mr. Fix it and could just about fix anything. He enjoyed vacations  to Alaska and Hawaii, watching Dawson Community College Basketball games and the Rough Rider Football in the Canada Football League and was a collector of many items.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ermentina;  and siblings, Edmund Scheetz and Jeanette Scheetz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Scheetz of Glendive; children, Shandon Ray Scheetz (fiancee Jennifer) of Glendive, Ernie (Cindy) Scheetz of Baker and Glenda Katherine (Kevin) Mitchell of Glendive; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings, Arlene Heim and friend, Monty of Baker, Edward A. Scheetz (special friend Margaret) of Spanaway, Wash. and James J. (Charlene) Scheetz of Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
