Elizabeth (Betty) Sue Van Scoik, 71, of Glendive, left this world to be with her lord and savior, surrounded by family at her home on December 22, 2015.

Memorial Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Break Forth Bible Church in Glendive with Pastor Jeremy Vester officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Betty was born to Clifford and Effie Hale on August 30, 1944 in Prince Georges County, Md. Betty was raised in Maryland and educated there graduating from high school in Bladensburg, Md. in 1962.  November 17, 1962 she was united in marriage to Jack C. Nicholson, Sr., they had two sons, Jack C. Nicholson, Jr. and Mark A. Nicholson. Betty and Jack, Sr. later divorced and remained friends. Betty moved to Glendive in 1982 to be closer to her boys, where she met Richard Van Scoik Sr., they were married November 8, 1985. With this Betty gained three more children, Richard, Jr., Cheryl and Denise.

In the past, Betty worked at the Shenandoah vinegar factory, plus she ran a successful   housekeeping business. Later, she worked for Trail Star until she retired in 2004.  Betty re-entered the workforce in the Spring of 2012 to help her daughter-in-law, Annette, manage Healthy Essentials in Glendive.  Betty poured her heart and soul into this endeavor. She viewed this as a labor of love, not a job. This allowed her to use her gift to help people whether they were hurting emotionally, physically and/or spiritually. Betty always had a smile on her face, a hug to give and a listening ear. She allowed the love of God to flow out of her and into others, revealing her best friend, Jesus, to everyone.

Betty was very spiritual, she spent much of her day worshipping God. She was a vital member of Break Forth Bible Church in Glendive.   She served in the bible book store, plus baked and cooked, always lending a helping hand where needed.

”Special” is the best way to describe Betty, she was always smiling, very caring, cheerful and loved to give.  Her gifts had a real meaning for each person who received something from her.  She was a lover of life itself!  She also loved to surprise, she was known to cook up a full meal for a special someone leaving it in their fridge to find when they arrived home. Betty had many friends and everyone will miss her dearly. Betty delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her cats, tending to her garden and cooking.  She also loved to read and take a nap.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Effie Hale; brother-in-law, Dean Beall; and son-in-laws, Sam Walker and Joel Waldman.

Betty is survived by her husband, Richard, of 30 years; son, Jack, Jr. (Stephanie) of Williston, N.D.; son, Mark Nicholson (Annette) of Glendive; Richard Van Scoik, Jr. of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, Cheryl Walker of Laurel; daughter, Denise Waldman of Redding, Calif.; sister, Kathy Beall of Ocean Pines, Md.; sister, Shirley (Jim) Brown of Lake Wales, Fla.; as well as fifteen grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Betty, you will always be with us, and we look forward to seeing you in heaven!
