Viola Elizabeth Germann, age 84, passed away, surrounded by her husband and family on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.

A Rosary Service was held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. A Memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Viola was born on September 15, 1931 in Taylor, N.D. on the family farm, a daughter of Christ and Beatrice (Kary) Heinert. She was raised and educated in a one room, rural school house where the first thing she had to learn was English as the only language spoken at home was German.  During her high school years she attended Dickinson High School graduating with the class of 1950.

One year after graduation, Viola married her best friend, Robert “Bob” Germann on January 6, 1951. Bob worked while Viola got the opportunity to stay home raising their four girls. Viola was a very talented seamstress and used her talent throughout the girls lives from sewing all their clothing to sewing bridesmaid dresses for her two oldest girls’ weddings. Throughout the years they moved around to several different locations including: Glendive; Great Falls; Riverside, Calif.; Vinita, Okla.; and Cincinnati, Ohio. Viola and Bob traveled the country in their 5th wheel from 1983 until 1995 before settling back in Glendive where they had remained since. Viola enjoyed her retirement years reading, working on crossword puzzles and spending valued time with her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Beatrice Heinert; and one infant brother, Richard.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Germann of Glendive; four children, Marcia Germann of Grand Terrace, Calif., DanNea Germann of Beaumont, Calif., Cyndi Germann of Strasburg, N.D., and Tami (Frank) Freas of Glendive; siblings, Hildegard Connell of Bismarck, N.D., Edwin Heinert of Milnor, N.D. and Marlys Eggum of Everett, Wash.; grandchildren, Dana, Dean, Risa, Brandi, Adam, Robert, David, Stephen, Erica and Jonathan; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.silhafuneralhomes.com.
