James was born on April 30, 1934 in Glendive, a son of Karl and Katherine (Hess) Fornall.  He was raised and educated in Glendive and graduated from Dawson County High School with the class of 1952.  Following his high school education, Jim attended the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota.  Jim later moved back to Glendive and while he was back he met and later married Mildred Rollins.  They were married on September 11, 1954 and to this union five children were born.   Upon his return Jim decided to pursue a lifelong career of farming and ranching.  Farming became a passion of Jim’s and he continued to do so until his health forced him to retire in 2009.

Although farming was always first and foremost, Jim also loved woodworking, tinkering in his shop, and fixing his equipment.  He enjoyed hunting and camping, and cherished spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Katherine and one brother, William Fornall.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mildred of Glendive; his five children, Laurie (Andrew) Mosdal of Newport, Pennsylvania, Bonnie (Scott) Farmer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jamie (Greg) Simonson of Colorado Springs, Peggy (Randy) Schmoldt of Denver, Colorado, and Scott (Cristena) Fornall of Glendive; one sister, Carolyn (Bob) Smith of Absorkee, Montana; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
