Dr. Tommathew T. Thomas died in his home on February 3, 2016 in Bethlehem, Pa. He was 77.
“Dr. Tom” was born on November 27, 1938 in Manimala, India to his father and mother Matthew and Rosamma Theempalangad Thomas. Tom met his wife Mary in Bonn, Germany and they married in May of 1969. He graduated from the University of Bonn in 1972 with a Medical Degree. The Thomas’ moved first to Baltimore, Md. where Tom did his residency and specialty studies in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology through Howard University in Washington D.C. They later moved to Miles City, Mont. and later Glendive where Tom was known for caring and providing for those in need. He was active in the Catholic Church and a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council 313 in Bethlehem, Pa. and 4th degree Monseigneur Hennessy Assembly in Glendive.
Dr. Thomas was very involved with his patients; making house visits and donating his time and medical care to those in need. He could always be seen filming his kids’ annual dance recitals, as he was blessed by 6 children. As they grew up he taught them the importance of family, education and hard work and was proud of their achievements.
Dr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Diana, Aisha, Helen, Sonja and Mallika; son, Tommy; 9 grandchildren; his sister, Jane Malamakal; and brothers, Prof. TM Joseph and John Matthew.
His mother and father precede him in death.
A funeral took place on February 6, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bethlehem, Pa. with a 9 a.m. gathering and the funeral at 10 a.m. followed by a private burial ceremony. All were welcome to attend and celebrate Dr. Thomas’ life.
