Darryl Dean Dobie, age 71, of Broomfield, Colo., passed with his wife by his side, in the early morning hours of February 19, 2016 at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Lafayette, Colo.
Born to Albert and Eileen (Zander) Dobie on August 15, 1944, in Dickinson, N.D., Darryl always said he viewed work as his hobby and thoroughly enjoyed working until illness forced him to limit his trips to the shop. His charisma, quick wit and fierce independence will leave lasting impressions on all those who knew him.
Named after Jay Hanna “Dizzy” Dean, the professional baseball player, Darryl was a lifelong sports fan, keeping stats on all teams but especially the Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche and Denver Broncos. He was fortunate to watch the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 with his family.
In his younger years, Darryl worked in many aspects of the oil industry, most notably as a District Manager for the former Dowell-Schlumberger in N.D., Texas, Kan., Wyo. and Mont. Recently, he stated the oil industry was his true work passion and had fond memories of that time.
Married since February 13, 1984, Darryl and Cheryl owned and operated carwashes and manufacturing companies in the car wash industry. In recent years, Aerodry allowed them extensive worldwide travel for projects and sightseeing. From a young man, Darryl dreamed of visiting China and he was extremely excited to recently have been given the opportunity to visit 5 of the 7 continents including that part of the world.
Darryl leaves behind his loving family: wife, Cheryl; and son, Darren (Tracy) Dobie of Bozeman, Mont.; daughters, Donna (Darin) Emmett of Glendive, Kendra (fiancé Kelley Westover) of Denver, Colo., and Kia of Los Angeles, Cali. He is survived by grandchildren, Tyler and Hallie Dobie, Dayton and Devin Emmett. Darryl is also survived by his brother, Bill (Karen) Dobie of Bozeman, Mont. and Dan (Michele) Dobie of Miles City, Mont.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and one uncle, Gordon.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, David; and sister, Ida.
Services are pending at Rundus Funeral Home in Broomfield, Colo.
Darryl’s family would like to thank the staffs of Good Samaritan Medical Center, Good Samaritan Palliative Care, Kaiser Permanente of Lafayette, Tru Community Care and Visiting Angels for their extraordinary care, wisdom and compassion.
