John M. Berres, age 87, of Glendive, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal will be held in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
John was born on September 11, 1928, a son of John C. and Mary C. (Keinrath) Berres in Glendive. John graduated from Dawson County High School with the class of 1946. After high school, John attended Dawson Junior College and Montana State College in Bozeman, before starting a lifelong career at the Montana Highway Department. In 1950, John was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany. Upon an honorable discharge from military services in 1952, John returned to the highway department where he retired thirty-five years later. At the time of John’s retirement, he was the division office engineer in Glendive.
John enjoyed watching high school football and basketball. For about thirty-three years, he was the timekeeper on the field for Dawson County High School football home games. He also enjoyed hunting but fishing was his real passion. John especially like to go to Intake for paddle fishing and walleye fishing. John never married.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brothers, Martin (Jean) Berres of Arvada, Colo. and their two children, and Francis Berres of Lewistown and his three children; and special friend and caretaker, Michelle Lutter.
