Sidney “Sid” Eugene Stedman’s, age 70, of Glendive, heart of gold finally gave out on Monday, March 21, 2016 at his home in Glendive.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Reverend Will Johnson officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Sid was born on January 23, 1946 in Beach, N.D., a son of Norman and Georgia (Adams) Stedman. He was raised and educated in Beach until the eleventh grade when he was inducted into the United States Army on  March 13, 1963. Sid proudly served as an engineer during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged from military duty in 1966.

Sid met and later married his best friend, Carol Mitchell on November 25, 1968 in Glendive and to this union three children were born; Jason, Jeana and Joshua. Sid started working at the age of fourteen to support his family and never stopped. He worked for Mitchell Bros. Inc., Pine Street Inc., Dawson County Courthouse as a maintenance supervisor and C & J Rentals. Sid also had his own carpenter’s business called, “Sid’s Carpentry.”  He was a meticulous carpenter, an expert cement finisher and a true craftsman in all he did. Sid built many houses and projects for people, he could fix anything. He was misused by many but never misused anyone.

Sid was honest, loyal and a very hard worker; he never excepted good enough, he always wanted it to be as close to perfect as possible. He was a jokester that enjoyed laughing and pulling jokes on people and leaving goofy notes on pictures to his wife and kids. He would get a kick out of teasing his daughter-in-law about her accent and use of English words. Sid always enjoyed the people around him, they were always given a part of him; his love, attention, stories and help. His wife, children and grandchildren meant everything to him. Colby, his dog, was also very special to him. Sid enjoyed traveling, never taking main roads but the back roads because they were more crazy and adventurous.

Sid had a deep and abiding faith in God but was very private about it. He supported many charities and organizations. He took great pride in all of his sons, daughters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews achievements over the years. Sid was a member of Glendive Masonic Lodge #31 AF & AM, Demolay as a Past Dad Advisor service for eighteen years, Scottish Rite Masons Council, Moose Lodge, American Legion Club, he was a Boy Scout Master and a life time member of the NRA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Georgia Stedman; infant son, Joshua; brothers, Charley, Gerald, Dale, Larry, Vernon, Edmund and David; brothers-in-law, Howard Wilson, Howard Vinquist and Emil Twardowski; sisters, Florence Vinquist and Dora Luella Wilson.

Survivors include his loving wife of forty-seven years, Carol; son, Jason (Princisita); daughter, Jeana; grandchildren, Larieth, Kimberly, Benjamin, Kyle, Jessie and Yu Hyun; great-grandchildren, Ariana, Sofia and Eliel; one sister, Rosalie Twardowski; sisters-in-law, Ardis Stedman, Janice Stedman and Barb Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
