Delon Boeckel, age 64, of Glendive, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Glendive with Pastor Ruth McKenzie officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Delon was born on March 3, 1952 in Hazen, N.D. He was the fifth of nine children born to Tom and Viola (Isaac) Boeckel. He grew up on a dairy farm 7 miles northwest of Beulah, where he graduated high school with the class of 1970. The very next day he moved to Glendive, where he worked for the city for a short period of time. He then went to work for Reynolds Market, and later worked for Rahr Meat Service, where he stayed for nine years. He then began his career with UPS, where he worked for twenty-nine years before retiring in September of 2008. He then began working for American Ford as a salesman, and retired in 2013.
On August 1, 1971, Delon married Helen Engle at the United Methodist Church in Glendive. He and Helen had two children, son Jason and daughter Sommer.
Delon enjoyed hunting, reloading and fishing, and loved to make sausage and jerky for his whole family and many friends. He also liked to golf and garden. He was a fan of all the local sports teams, and loved to attend the home games for basketball and football. When the football team had home games, Delon worked as a part of the chain gang. He was also a member of the Bucs club, and a longtime member of both the Moose and the Elks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Viola; and one sister, Joyce Dierkes.
Delon is survived by his wife, Helen Boeckel of Glendive; his children, Jason Boeckel of Missoula and Sommer (Bill) Galfano of Minneapolis, Minn.; his seven grandchildren, Meranda, Nicole, Alicia, Connor, Jaden, Dalton and Luca; one great-grandchild, Aubrey; siblings, Betty (Ray) Hunt of Miles City, Gene (Diane) Boeckel of Glendale, Ariz., Verla Stevens of Springfield, Ore., Sheila Huber of Grants Pass, Ore., Darla (Russell) Pelton of Bismarck, N.D., Kevin Boeckel of Hope Mills, N.C. and Keith Boeckel of Glendive; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Delon’s name to the Buc’s Club or to the charity of one’s choice.
