Verna Lorraine Haggerty

Verna Lorraine Haggerty, age 88, of Lindsay, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive.  

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Glendive with Pastor Ruth McKenzie officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery south of Lindsay.  Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lorraine was born on April 11, 1928 in Glendive to Alfred and Naoma (Glasscock) Colby. She was the oldest of three children. Her father passed away when she was six and her mother later married Frank Eaton and to this union five more siblings were born. Lorraine was raised and educated in Glendive where she attended Dawson County High School. Following her education she met and married Daniel “Dan” G. Haggerty on March 23, 1944 in Glendive. Lorraine stayed busy raising their eight children. She would help Dan whenever it was needed, later in life, she worked several jobs outside her home including, a receptionist for the Isle of Beauty Salon owned by her sister Betty Huskinson, H&R Block, cleaning the Lindsay School, and the relief Postmistress at the Lindsay Post Office. Lorraine resided in Lindsay until she moved to Glendive in November 2015 and later to the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in May 2016 where she resided until her passing.

Lorraine enjoyed sewing, weaving, crocheting, knitting, quilting, reading and baking. She loved playing Scrabble and doing crossword puzzles. Lorraine was a very kind, gentle and honest woman who had a soft heart and a quiet intelligence. She loved her family and rarely missed any of their activities.  

Lorraine was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service, Women of the Moose Lodge, Weavers Guild, Clear Creek Homemakers Club and the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel “Dan”; two sons, Patrick “Pat” and Larry “Butchie”; one daughter, Judith Parrish; four sisters; two brothers; three granddaughters; one grandson; and one son-in-law.

Lorraine is survived by five children, Carol (Ike) Robinson of Moyie Springs, Idaho, Diane Lovaas of Glendive, Mike (Yvonda) Haggerty of Glendive, Jeff (Vickie) Haggerty of Billings, and Anne (Bill) Sadorf of Glendive; two daughters-in-law, Carolee Haggerty of Texas and Lois Haggerty of Glendive; twenty-eight grandchildren;  eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Susie) Eaton of Billings; one sister-in-law, Joan Dann of Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
