Sharon Kay McGaughey, age 69, of Dickinson, North Dakota, formerly of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Bismarck, North Dakota. Funeral Services will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Glendive with Pastor Ruth McKenzie officiating. Interment will take place following the service at the Richey Cemetery in Richey. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Sharon was born on February 14, 1946 in Fremont, Nebraska, a daughter of Myron and Delpha (Graber) Appel. As a child she moved to Glendive with her family where she attended Dawson County High School graduating with the class of 1964. Sharon enjoyed car hopping as a young girl at the Tasty Freezer which her mother and father owned in Glendive.
She met and later married her best friend Bill McGaughey on April 6, 1974 in Glendive. Sharon worked as a Bookkeeper for MDU and then she was a sales person for Riggs Camera and Gifts in Glendive. She worked until her daughter was born and became a stay at home mother.
During Sharon’s life, she enjoyed the nature in her yard. She loved to plant flowers, bushes, and trees and enjoyed the birds. Sharon loved to travel, have weekly get-togethers with her dear friends and she enjoyed evenings reading good books. She was involved with her kids activities, from going to baseball and wrestling, to choir concerts and other school events. Sharon loved family get-together’s as she was very close with her family. She always kept a close relationship with her daughter, mother and sister, who were her best friends. She had a very kind heart toward animals. Sharon was a special lady and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Myron and Delpha Appel; son, Troy McGaughey and brother, Robert “Bob” Appel.
Survivors include her loving husband, Bill of Dickinson, North Dakota; daughter, Sasha (Quade) Iorg of Dickinson; son, Travis McGaughey of Vernal, Utah; grandchildren, Brett and Matthew of Vernal and Jake and Tyler of Gallup, New Mexico; great-granddaughter, Gracie McGaughey; sister, Deanna (Rich) Walton of La Canada, Californina; great-aunt, Cloey Scheer of Circle, Montana and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sharon’s name to the local Food Bank and Dickinson, North Dakota Food Bank.
