Esther Meidinger

A funeral service for Esther Carrie Fish Meidinger, 88, of Bismarck, will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST, Saturday, February 6, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, N.D. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. MST, Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Black Hills National Veterans Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Visitation for Esther will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. MST, Saturday at Stevenson Funeral Home. 

Esther passed away January 30, 2016 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Home in Bismarck, N.D.

Esther was born June 27, 1927 in East Fairview, N.D. to Oscar and Blanche Schamehorn Fish, she was the third born of five children.  After high school graduation, Esther ventured to California where she worked for a telephone company. Upon returning to Fairview, she married Wallace Meidinger in 1948 and together they had 4 children: Myra, Dan, Bruce and Brian.

Esther and Wally lived in Glendive for many years; here they raised their children, owned and operated a gift store and Esther worked for the credit union, at Dawson Community college and for Eastmont. Esther also took great pride in being a den mother for her sons’ scout troops and being involved in her children’s activities.  After moving to Baker in 1971, Esther worked at the Livestock sales barn and a local law office. In their later years, Esther and Wally enjoyed traveling, camping and visiting family and friends. Esther also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, music, bowling and dancing.  In 2002, Esther moved to Bismarck, N.D.

Esther is survived by her four children, Myra (Floyd) Gabel of Kinsey, Mont., Dan Meidinger (Denise) of Florien, La.,  Bruce Meidinger (Sherry) of Bismarck, N.D. and Brian (Sherry) Meidinger of Casper, Wyo.; one sister, Nora Kreb of Great Falls; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Meidinger of Glendive and Viola Meidinger of Miles City.  Esther is also survived by eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; infant brother, Dale; brother, Gary; and two sisters, Marcella Holom and Verna Johnson.
