Mary Julia Hurning passed away peacefully on January 28, 2016 at the age of 97.
During her productive life she made a positive impression on everyone she knew, and many will miss her.
Mary was born on June 27, 1918 in Bismarck, N.D., to parents Phillipena and Nicholas Yochim. She enjoyed her family, music, cooking and travel. In 1941 Mary married her high school sweetheart, the love of her life, Dr. James H. Hurning. They moved to Glendive at the end of WWII where Dr. Hurning operated his dental practice until his untimely death in 1970. Mary is also predeceased by her brother, Fred Yochim. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive and an active member and volunteer of both Glendive and Billings Senior Centers.
Mary was the rock of the family and she is survived by her loving and devoted children, Jarlath Hilburn, Jonathan and wife, Phyllis, Tom, Mary Ann Bach and husband, Tom, Gretchen Dibble and James; and her brother, George Yochim; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial graveside service at a later date in Glendive. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in Mary’s name to Riverstone Hospice House, Billings, MT in appreciation of their compassionate staff and services (riverstonehealth.org).
