Gertrude “Gert” Carlson Molmen passed away on Valentine’s Day, 2016 with her husband and sweetheart, Jim Molmen, by her side.
She was born Gertrude Louisa Matz to Louisa and Henry Matz in Goodhue, Minn. on October 22, 1920. Her family later moved to Frederick, Wis. where she grew up on a dairy farm. She and her five siblings had many fun adventures on the farm including having a pet crow named “Pete.” She married Norman Carlson on June 19, 1943 after they met at Stout State University in Menomonie, Wis. Norman and Gert moved to Glendive, where Norman taught shop classes at Dawson County High School and Gert taught Home Economics at the Glendive middle school. Norman passed away in 1988.
Gert married Jim Molmen in 1999. They moved to McVille, N.D. in October of 2014.
Gert is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Carlson; her brothers, Fred and Ed Matz; and her sisters, Dora Larson, Lillian Heckel and Esther Kelly.
Gert is survived by her husband, Jim Molmen; her children, Bruce (Kerry) Carlson and Karen (Perry) Jones; five grandchildren, Josh (Verena Bryan) Carlson, Josi Carlson, Julia Carlson, Kelly (Asher) Hinrichs and Rachael Jones; step-children from her union with Jim Molmen include Randy (Marcie) Molmen, David (Karen) Molmen, Steve (Deb) Molmen, Roseann (Russell) Lohof; and Jim’s grandchildren, Brittany and Briana Molmen, Beth and Chris Molmen, Blake, Brock and Bailee Molmen and Luke and Abbie Lohof.
A celebration of Gert’s life will be scheduled at a later date in Glendive.
