Frieda was born on March 8, 1926, a daughter of Jacob and Karolina (Retzer) Bertsch in Ashley, N.D. She had three sisters and one brother. Frieda was the third born on a farm and attended country school through the eighth grade.

Frieda taught herself to sew on an old Singer treadle sewing machine and loved to take in sewing - made clothes from scratch, even wedding dresses. She did mending for people and embroidered dishtowels, which everyone asked for!

Frieda also took in ironing and cleaned houses for other people. In her garage, she conducted a business called, “Frieda’s Resale Shop”. She enjoyed tending to her flower beds and garden, going fishing, playing cards, doing puzzles and later playing bingo at Extended Care during her stay there.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 2008; daughter, Ann Lindvig in 2005; and her oldest sister, Mary Bush; and brother, Harry Bertsch.

She is survived by her four children; Larry, Anita, Jan and Brenda; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren;  two sisters, Francis Priebe and Betty Hagen; one sister-in-law, Maggie Bertsch; son-in-law, Steve (Wanda) Lindvig and numerous nieces and nephews.
